Get Involved in Our Card Campaign!

It’s amazing what a little genuine, heartfelt message can do.

TCM is partnering with Jewish Family Service of St. Paul in our efforts to reach out to elders sheltering-in-place in three long-term care facilities in Minneapolis and St. Paul!

You can participate in our Card Campaign by sending words of encouragement and art to elders living in long-term care facilities who are unable to receive visitors from family and friends and are isolated in their rooms. Many are feeling frustrated, alone and afraid. We have heard from folks in communal living homes that receiving mail can help with the strange feeling of being disconnected from the outside world due to limitations on time outdoors and prohibitions on eating meals with others. You can also send messages and cards to staff, who are working so hard to keep residents safe and well cared-for.

“It would mean so much to them to get mail. It would brighten their day.”

- Donna White, Director of Recreational Therapy, Walker Methodist Health Center

Help us send residents at Walker Methodist Health, Ebenezer Care Center, and Sholom Home a piece of mail to let them know people are thinking about them. Include a little bit about yourself and/or your family in these messages! Folks appreciate a more personal connection (given the constraint of not being able to meet you in person). They also appreciate knowing their efforts to guard the safety of others by sheltering-in-place makes a difference.

2 easy ways you can make a difference:

Option 1:

You can make the cards and send them to us. When we receive them, we will date the cards and “hold them” for infection control for 72 hours. Once ready, we will deliver them to the team at Walker Methodist Health, Ebenezer Care Center, and Sholom Home to distribute them to their residents.

Make, buy or “repurpose” cards you have at home already! Postcards work great! Here are some suggestions for what to include (but certainly not requirements):

  • Invite family members to participate

  • Introduce yourselves and even share a picture if you wish

  • Write a simple note, letter, or share an inspiring quotation on a piece of paper

  • Include a greeting like: “I am thinking of you” or “Sending warm thoughts your way”

  • If you are interested in developing a more ongoing connection with folks, consider including your name and and address and perhaps a self-addressed stamped envelope to invite elders to write back.

  • Sign the card (first names only, please)

Option 2:

We can do it for you!

Enter text for your message and we will print these messages on nice stationary and give them to the volunteer coordinator who will distribute them as a “collection of greetings from your community.”
